Stonehouse + Irons Architecture commitment to the environment has always been at our core and we are proud to announce that we are officially a Carbon Neutral small business.
We commissioned Pangolin Associates Pty Ltd (Pangolin Associates) to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the financial year (FY) 2021. The total emissions for FY2021 were 12tCO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent).
Pangolin Associates conducted the GHG assessment in accordance with The GHG Protocol: A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (Revised Edition) and Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard published by the World Resource Institute (WRI) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and with International Standards Organisation ISO 14064-1:2018 Greenhouse gases – Part 1: Specification with guidance at the organisation level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals.
In response, we offset our total FY2021 of 12tCO2e, in accordance with the Australian Government’s carbon neutral certification program – Climate Active program.
Stonehouse + Irons Architecture invested in two carbon projects, one that had an Australian impact and one that had a global impact.
Project 1: Greenfleet Australian Reforestation
Greenfleet is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation committed to protecting our climate by restoring our forests.
Greenfleet plants native biodiverse forests to capture carbon emissions and help fight the impacts of climate change. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted over 9.6 million trees across over 500 forests in Australia and New Zealand.
As they grow, Greenfleet forests absorb carbon emissions, improve soil and water quality, and restore habitat for native wildlife, including many endangered species.
Greenfleet forests are also legally protected for up to 100 years, ensuring they can grow for future generations.
Through practical climate action, Greenfleet is growing hope for our climate.
Project 2: Energy efficient bricks
It is imperative that we continue to drive energy efficiency across all industries and in particular emission intensive industries. That is why we decided to invest in an Indian based project that manufactures energy efficient bricks.
Stonehouse + Irons Architecture have also decided to offset our FY2022 emissions. Throughout FY2022 our focus will be to reduce our emissions where possible. At the end of FY2023 we will re-measure our footprint and importantly understand the success we have had in reducing our emissions and continue to offset our remaining total emission with high quality carbon credits to maintain our carbon neutral claim.
