Ocean Grove I is a new family beach house that overlooks Ocean Grove main beach with a 180 degree aspect up and down the coast. The new house replaced and was inspired by a humble 1940’s ‘shack’ that had extensive issues and was unsuitable for modification.
The house was designed to sit ‘quietly’ in the streetscape and maintain a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The design sought the remove corridors, instead sharing the circulation space with the room adjacent, which is a remnant of the simplistic beach house layout.
Partially cut into the site, to reconcile access and levels, the simple roof is also testament to a more utilitarian’ approach to the beach house vernacular.
